It was sad for me to discover one day, while checking out the news on kennyrankin.com, that Kenny had died. As is the case with so many others, Kenny's music has been with me for the best part of my life. But, when someone dies, you tend to think back to the best part of his or her life. I'll always remember the Kenny of the Inside and Silver Morning era, since I feel this was when he made his best music. I have all of his albums, and I have read that he became a better singer later in his life, but music helps us remember periods in our lives that we like to look back on. I once heard Billy Connolly say, while recently admiring some young buskers performing on the street in Glasgow, that what he really misses is his youth. And isn't that what nostalgia is all about. My favourite Kenny Rankin song continues to be "Haven't We Met", but most of all it takes me back to my youth.
