I did not hear of your father's passing in the news; I was just thinking not long ago that I hadn't seen any notice that he was playing locally (I'm in L.A.) in a while (I saw him at the Jazz Bakery a few years ago--I remember that Brian Bromberg was playing bass for that set of dates) and found the sad news. What I want to express is that, every time I listen to his amazing versions of many songs, for example, "I've Just Seen a Face," "Time and Love," "Blackbird," "Haven't We Met," etc., etc., I want to call the world on the phone and say, "HEY! This is how it's done--this is how to feel, this is how to take life in and share it." He communicated through his exemplary voice, his endearing guitar playing, and his deeply felt commitment to music. The world is so much better for having had him here--and for his recordings to perpetuate his gift for all who follow. My heart goes out to you for your loss; my gratitude for his presence and the work he did to present it is as strong as anything I've ever felt.
