Wow! I read this post with great interest, and my response to Mr. Rankin would be to LIGHTEN UP!

I look at this forum almost every day for a couple of reasons. I am a longtime fan of Mr. Rankin's music, but I also admire the fact that he takes time to interact with his fans. He has always struck me as humble and thankful for his gift and the amount of fame it has brought to his life. He also seems willing, almost eager, to respond to criticism and admit to mistakes he has made in the past.

Although celebrities do not owe their fans anything, there are those whose interaction with the public probably contributes to their ongoing success and I would guess that Mr. Rankin falls into this category. Let's face it, we are not discussing a Beatle or Rolling Stone here. Mr. Rankin's fan base, although loyal, will never reach those proportions.

Now, his response to GUY56 does not sound like the sensitive artist that tells his fans to "Be Well". It sounds more like the cranky old guy who will not return the frisbee that accidentally flew over his fence!

Mr. Rankin, those in the public eye face this sort of dilemma every day. Would you stop giving those lucky enough to see you in person and interact with you face to face the pleasure of the ultimate fan connection - an autograph - all because of one person who, by the way, only inquires to the value of something and is not trying to use this forum to make a buck?

I also have to add that I believe both you and GUY56 will be greatly disappointed in what value a signature adds to one of your records. My guess is that if he could treat his family to a meal at Burger King with the profits he realized he would be a very lucky man, indeed.

Still admire both the man and his music...my guess is that this response came at the end of a bad day.

>Ed, I agree with you....... I'd never sell any of mine. They will be treasured by my musician daughter long after I am gone. Thanks Kenny. It's a shame if you stop signing because of some "gotta make a buck" jerk. I cherish each of my Rankin albums including the one you signed...
