I've had illness in my family.......when someone is in the hospital or awaiting a serious test result, I play nothing but Sinatra on my car cd which involves two one hour commutes a day. (listening to Sinatra brought me good luck years back, so he's become a good luck charm)...........so this bout for my father was a week, so I have listened to hundreds of Frank's songs, all from the Capitol and early Reprise Years........on Thursday I brought my father home to my mother (85 y.o.)
In ordinary times I put together cd's with themes for cd's.....time, broken hearts, snow, rain, etc........So to celebrate, I drove from my parents' home back to my office, and put on a recent creation, songs about a second, a minute, an hour, a day (came out to about 15 cds!)

So what does this have to do with this page?........I heard Frank sing Here's That Rainy Day, for many of us a wonderful combination of melody and lyric.
However, on my 'radio show cd' (I'm a fan of Pete Fornatale's, a comrade of Kenny's, and Pete is an artist at theme shows), up comes Here's That Rainy Day, by Kenny Rankin. Not in anyone's wildest dreams, altho of course I respect everyone's taste, so I'm merely expressing mine, can you find a better rendition of that song than Kenny's......it was magical.........I played it a couple of times, I have a fair voice so I've always sung Kenny's arrangement, fans remember how he plays with the melody a bit in his unique style of singing and arranging, and I decided I had to share that with fellow fans, and Kenny, in the Forum.
What a delightful feeling it must be for Kenny to put that head on the pillow, day dream those day dreams we all do just before sleep, and think that his talent elevates him in a pantheon that includes a chap like Sinatra (and others.) To work so hard to hone your skills, to develop your art, there might be some luck involved, but more so tenacity, perseverance, and smoke filled clubs that seat 50, and when night arrives, you can lay back and say to yourself, appropriately so, "Sinatra.......Bennett.......Mathis........Rankin" I hope you enjoy that feeling as much I do describing it, Mr. R.
