We in our later 40's to 60, the Baby Boomers, had a very glaring weakness; we were supposedly very open to the world, to new things, yet there were groups considered very unhip, so they didn't join the pantheon of Hendrix, Cream, Airplane, Dead, etc.

Sergio Mendes and '65 did several albums that were marvelous; indeed, they liked to do Beatles, but a simple song like The Look of Love was made magical......and some of their lesser known songs, done by Lani, stand up to any music......she was/is that good.

I listened and I own all the albums right up to the Brazil 77 and including them...Lani was gone by then, but still, the two vocalists were excellent.

In the same vein, Manhattan Transfer has not gotten their due, but such is life.

Kenny might support my view that certain groups, and soloists, who do work crossing genres, have a much harder time building their fan base. I love, and so do you I'm sure, Kenny singing names in a phonebook, but he has started folk, gone into mostly jazzy work, be it covers of Beatles or Stills, or Van Morrison, but he takes Sunday Kind of Love, he takes Marie, he takes a bunch of standards from some of the great composers of our century, and for the Rankin fan family, they're heavenly.....the more casual music fan might enjoy Marie and Four Days Gone, but are not fans of the standards, so you could 'lose' them there.

Needless to say, Kenny taking some of the songs off that Brazil 65 troika or quartet of albums, would be a kick. On this Board I had suggested he take a Laura Nyro song I thought noteworthy, as it always comes down to the artist (pause)....and his/her material.....
    Kenny sang anything, hands down.
