I saw Kenny Rankin around 1975 @ the Pumphouse in Kailua, HI on Oahu. Damn I think you could only fit around 100 in there it was so small. But what a cozy setting it was. I was no more than gosh 25 feet away maybe closer from him. I was with the woman that I'm married to still today of 32 years. He played his Silver Morning album, those days you could smoke. I wonder if he remembers playing there. He was just drop jawed awesome. I'd never heard of him before. Funny how after I'd seen him, his music was everywhere in Hawaii. At the time there was an underground FM station that use to put him on amongst POCO, Steve Miller, Deodato, George Benson, Earl Klugh and Traffic. That was about the same time that Steven Bishop came out with, "On and On". It seemed simultaneously that Kenny Rankin had his own version and Kenny's version kind of stood out. Well those are kind of the 'flash from the past" that you get when Kenny's music comes up on my iTunes list. Hell, I didn't wait for the CD I cut my own electronic version from his vinyl album. Anyways I think I missed him here in Seattle just this past spring or summer am hoping that I get another shot out here. Ran into his Youtube "So peaceful here" performance ages ago. It's so nice to know that you guys are still out there continuing your craft because Lord knows that you've got a following. Hope to see you soon Kenny! : - )
